During that time, Laurie also served as a court-appointed Spanish/English interpreter in both state and federal courts. Laurie is a professional trainer for the National Criminal Justice Training Institute through Fox Valley Technical College developing and presenting workshops and webinars to meet the continuing education needs of public safety professionals, Sexual Assault Response Teams (SARTs), and Child Abuse MDTs. Laurie has served as an author and lecturer for various Indiana Continuing Legal Education programs and on the faculty at the National Symposium on Child Abuse in Huntsville, Alabama, for eight years. She worked as an adjunct professor of criminal sciences at Indiana Institute of Technology (Indiana Tech) from 2011-2016. Laurie earned her B.A. from Goshen College in 1986 and her J.D. from Indiana University School of Law (Bloomington) in 1993. From 1986-1990 Laurie taught Spanish at Whitko High School (South Whitley, IN), coaching volleyball, basketball and academic teams, and working summers as an interpreter for a missionary group in Guatemala. In 2005, Laurie formed Socratic Parenting LLC, her writing, speaking and consulting company (www.SocraticParenting.com). Laurie is the author of three award-winning young adult novels and a parenting book, and the co-author of The ABC’s of Sexual Assault: Anatamy, “Bunk” and the Courtroom (Socratic Parenting LLC, 2015). Laurie lives in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with her husband, who is also an attorney, and their teenage daughter.
