Kirat Sandhu is a recent graduate of the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and the IU School of Liberal Arts at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, where she earned her Bachelors of Arts in Philanthropic Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies, respectively. Kirat is a proud second-generation Punjabi-American dedicated to examining sexual violence through an intersectional lens. She is passionate about addressing root causes and utilizing feminist methodologies to better understand and end gender-based violence. Her work with sexual assault prevention comes from a very personal place and operates on both a state and national level. Kirat is extremely involved with the It’s On Us campaign launched out of the White House in 2014. She was selected to serve on the inaugural Student Advisory Committee in 2015, and now serves as a Regional Advisor for the It’s On Us Southern Region of the United States. Kirat was also chosen to participate in Lady Gaga’s 2016 Academy Awards performance centered on survivors of sexual assault, and she had the honor of writing a guest piece leading up to the 2016 United State of Women Summit hosted by the White House. She has been recognized by Vice President Biden for her commitment to sexual assault prevention, especially on college campuses. Kirat is also the recipient of the 2016 Outstanding Young Adult Indiana Philanthropy Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals Indiana Chapter.
